This affinity between Into Mischief and Empire Maker bodes well for young New York sire

By Alan Porter

There is no doubt that one of the outstanding crosses for Into Mischief has been with mares by Empire Maker. So far the cross has produced five stakes winners, headed by the Kentucky Derby (G1) victor, Mandaloun, the 2022 Pat O’Brien Stakes (G2) victor, Laurel River, and Center Isle, successful in the Sugar Swirl Stakes (G3). Into Mischief has also sired stakes winner Top Gunner out of a mare by a son of Empire Maker, and the multiple stakes winning Can The Queen is by a son of Into Mischief out of an Empire Maker mare.

This affinity between Into Mischief and Empire Maker bodes well for young New York sire, Honest Mischief, a sprint stakes winner who is out of Honest Lady, a grade one winning and grade one producing half-sister to Empire Maker. We should note too, that Honest Lady has already extended the sire producing record of the family, as she produced a son who has sired both an Eclipse Award winning Champion in the U.S. and a classic winner in Europe.
